Werewolf Anthro Tutorial pt. 1 by Draikairion Werewolf Anthro Tutorial pt. 1 by Draikairion
For :iconpencilartguy: because he's been asking for this for months now. Here's part one! the following part will simply be add-ons...more details on how to do anthro body parts in more detail.

Not too shabby. I wish I had to time to do better, but I have other priorities. It was good practice though.

Time invested: about...4 hours. Sorry about the transparency inconsistencies. I'm tired and tired of looking at this...

this is great and very helpful :D i tend to have issues drawing the legs when they're not on the ground, so when they're sitting or laying.

I have a question for you.

I'm completely new to drawing anthros, frankly I suck. My biggest problem is the legs, yeah that's probably common, but I can't figure it out. I get the basic shape yeah, but I'm stuck. I don't get how large the foot is supposed to be compared to the leg, even if it is just in animal form. If I had that, I'd have a better chance at drawing the foot cause I'm really stuck. If you could help me out, I'd be beyond grateful to you.

Okay :).

Think of it this way: wolves are naturally digitigrade (meaning they walk on their toes and not the calcaneus/"heel" like humans do). But because the toes are not as good for balance, wolves are quadropeds meaning they walk on four legs to retain balance. Anthros are mythic creatures so their anatomies are obviously not as...scientifically correct...but you, as an artist, can at least fool your audience into believing that your anthro follows the laws of physics. Because most anthros are digitigrade and ALSO bipedal (walks on two feet), it creates balance and center of gravity issues. The top part of the body is much heavier than the bottom making the anthro unstable. Therefore, to compensate, slighting larger tails, larger feet, human knees, and a slightly slouched posture are necessary to make your anthro believable.

Check out part three of my tutorial. It might explain some of this better. Perhaps I will make another part of the tutorial that explains all about center of gravity, posture, and weight distribution. Stay tuned and I hope this helps. Also, I might go into further detail about feet proportions.

I get that, don't get me wrong, but that does help some. I know that the foot is my problem, I'm not sure how to make it look proper to the rest of the leg. Either it's too long or too short. The toes, yeah that I'm gonna be working on more and I saw all your tutorials, they were a great help in some ways and others I already knew. I'm just trying to figure out how the foot is in relation to the rest of the leg. You know?
