Liquid Fire Koi Mask by Draikairion Liquid Fire Koi Mask by Draikairion
This was a custom order from one of my Etsy customers. He is going to Mardi Gras this year and wanted a koi mask. He was unsure about the original colors since they had a strong feminine feel so I switched up the colors more and added more irregularities to the splotches.

So this is my "man" koi mask. I used thinned, rich gold paint instead of the interference paint from the first koi mask. When I did, the koi seemed to be set on fire hence the name!

Made from sturdy 6 oz veg tanned leather, hand carved and sculpted, painted with acrylic paint and sealed with acrylic finishing spray.

You may not use, reproduce, copy, or redistribute this photograph or mask design in any form. Copyright to Sarah Elder, 2012, Draikairion.

I am taking custom orders for masks so don't hesitate to send me a note :)

Yay! I love Mardi Gras! This mask is so beautiful and amazing! I don't think I'd wear it tho because I'd be too afraid of breaking it....

Actually, this mask would be tough to break...it's sturdy 6 oz veg tanned leather and dropping/wearing is not going to hurt it...just don't sit on it ^^

That sounds good in theory but I have some really clumsy family and friends.... (the kind that find a way to fall while sitting...)

LOL! Okay. But I promise you that these are sturdier than most cheap, plastic or even some resin masks.

I have a couple family members and friends like that.

This is really good! I work with fish, a huge portion of which are carp. I always seemed to like the mosaic Koi (like the one on your mask) rather than the solid color koi or the solid color koi with one single dot somewhere on their body. I like this. As good as this mask is, you could probably make another version of it emphasizing a longer tail which could then cover more of the face (going downward towards the jaw, or going across between the lip and nose, or maybe both since the tail has a top and bottom, or maybe even going back along the cheek bone and eventually reaching behind the ear). As a fisheries worker, I'd show up to a party with this mask.

Thanks so much for your extensive feedback! I greatly appreciate it.

I do indeed like the longer tail idea and I might definitely consider it. However, the tail as is already comes down below the lips on the cheek (believe it or not!). But I might consider making the tail swish more away from the lips so I can make it longer.

That's so cool that you work with fish!. I will admit that I'm not koi savvy as far as coloration goes. My client sent me a picture of a koi of which he liked the coloration and pattern and I tried to match it (believe me....making that brilliant neon red-orange is NOT easy and I still didn't get it exact).
